Workshop 2023

Blended Intensive Programme (Olomouc 2023)

Language Use and Linguistic Structure: Bringing Comparative and Empirical Studies Together

What is a blended intensive programme (BIP)?

Blended intensive programmes are short, intensive programmes (covered by the Erasmus+ programme) that use innovative ways of learning and teaching, including the use of online cooperation. Participants can apply with their home universities for funding as long as they meet the following criteria:

• participation in the physical activity (methodological and linguistic workshops), which means

• spending five full days in Olomouc during the event (7-11 June, 2023)

• participation in the virtual activity (one online session - methodological workshop)

The Blended Intensive Programme Language Use and Linguistic Structure: Bringing Comparative and Empirical Studies Together brings together experts in the field of linguistics from Germany (Friedrich Schiller University Jena), Hungary (University of Debrecen) and Czech Republic (Palacký University Olomouc), who will organize three specialized linguistic workshops intended for linguists and students of linguistics. There will also be two methodological lessons on empirical methods in linguistics.

The whole event is coordinated and hosted by Palacký University Olomouc. The BIP programme is open to Czech nationals (academics and students from Palacký University as well as  other Czech universities), and international academics and students from countries associated to the Erasmus+ programme as well as other countries. The aim is to facilitate access to information and to state-of-the art research and methodologies in the three linguistic areas for the workshop participants and to enhance international cooperation and networking.

BIP ID: 2021-1-CZ01-KA131-HED-000008282-21

Objectives

The workshops are intended for students of linguistics and academics in various stages of their careers (from those in the early stages to the established ones). The workshop organizers have experience with field work, computational methods, and experimental methods which they will share with the participants.  The participants in the early stages of their careers will benefit from the presence of experts with international renown and experience with various approaches and methodologies. The workshops will explore methodological innovation in the respective areas and their inter-disciplinary applications. Participants will have the opportunity of presenting their own research and getting feedback from the experts; junior member of audience will have the opportunity of learning of the best practice of presenting research and formulating feedback.

The methodological lessons are intended for students of linguistics (as an introduction to empirical methods in linguistic research) as well as academic staff (who can share their experience with teaching methodology of empirical research)

Eligible participants

You can apply for the funding at your university provided

  • your home institution holds an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education ECHE
  • and there is a bilateral agreement between your institution and Palacký University Olomouc (if there is none, an agreement can be signed)
  • both university employees and students are eligible
  • the rest depends on the selection criteria at your home institution

How to proceed

What do you need to do if you are interested?

The administration of the BIP programme is very similar to an Erasmus teaching mobility, i.e. you apply with your home institution and need to have a mobility agreement signed by your home institution and the host institution (Palacký University Olomouc)

  • First please contact us to let us know you are interested in participating in the BIP programme.
  • You will also need to contact the Institutional Erasmus Coordinator at the International Office at your university as early as possible, who will tell you how to apply for funding from the BIP program and should help you with all the formalities.
  • What if there is no bilateral agreement between Palacký University Olomouc and your institution? If your institution agrees, we can sign a bilateral agreement so your travel costs can be covered by your institution. Please contact us asap at olinco@upol.cz if that is the case.
  • Every participant needs an acceptance email from their home university which contains the date, place, and name of the BIP (Palacký University Olomouc, Olomouc, Czech Republic, 7-11 June 2022, BIP title: Language Use and Linguistic Structure: Bringing Comparative and Empirical Studies Together). Please note that a five-day stay is required. (Please make sure that you book your tickets for the whole event (5 days), not shorter. Before making a final booking, please check with us whether your travel itinerary complies with the BIP rules.)
  • Then get back to us at olinco@upol.cz to have your mobility agreement confirmed and signed or to ask any questions.

Deadline for registration: 5 May 2023
